James Butler is a retired Police Officer with more than 30 years of combined  experience in law enforcement, security operations, and private investigations. James brings unmatched expertise and professionalism to every case. James is a  Licensed California Private Investigator (CA PI #189588) and the founder of Trueline Investigations Inc., based in Dublin, California.

Before launching Trueline Investigations in 2023, James served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and a Police Officer in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, where he developed advanced skills in criminal investigations, surveillance, and evidence handling. His career also includes specialized  assignments in Homicide, Sexual-assault, and Juvenile investigations, SWAT operations, and Background Investigations for major law-enforcement agencies.

In the private sector, James has provided executive protection for Fortune 500  companies, conducted complex pre-employment background checks, and  managed high-risk security details. His clients benefit from a meticulous, discreet approach that ensures reliable results and comprehensive reporting.

  

James is an active member of the California Association of Licensed Investigators  (CALI) and the California Association of Law Enforcement Background Investigators (CALEBI), reflecting his commitment to professional standards and continuing education.
